Reception
(EYFS)
Reception is such a fantastic year! It is full of discovering new things, new experiences, growing in confidence to reach beyond your grasp. Every child is supported to be the best they can be. We build relationships with children and their families from the very start and strive to always work in partnership with adults at home recognising them as a child’s first educator.
During this year, children will be taught to read, write and spell in phonics and Literacy and count, calculate and reason in Maths. There is a broad mix of practical, play based learning and structures taught sessions. Our children are supported to develop the skills they need to become independent indoors and outdoors.
Children follow topic-based learning and their own interests each half term including marvellous me, light and dark, everyday heroes, spring watch, all creatures great and small and exploring.
Children study prime and specific areas set out in EYFS statutory requirements. By the end of their Reception year, we want children to:
- thrive in a vibrant, exciting environment indoors and outdoors.
- feel safe and secure enough to take risks.
- be independent decision makers.
- show enthusiasm and confidence to reach beyond their grasp.
- be kind and respectful.
- achieve well and enjoy celebrating and sharing these achievements.
Some of the special experiences include shopping for ingredients and making vegetable soup, exploring forest school, hatching chicks, visiting the farm and a trip to the beach.
