Langley Moor Primary School

Class 4

(Year 4)

Welcome to Year 4 – A Year to Explore, Create and Shine!

Year 4 is an exciting time when children build confidence, take on new challenges and begin to see themselves as independent learners. In our caring, lively classroom, we nurture curiosity and a love of learning so that every child feels proud of what they can achieve.

Our curriculum is packed with opportunities to investigate and imagine. In history we will march with the Romans through County Durham, discover what daily life was like in Ancient Rome and find out what happened when the Romans left Britain. Geography takes us across the continent as we become European travel experts, using satellite images, atlases and climate graphs to decide “What’s the best European holiday destination and why?”. Science invites us outdoors to explore Living Things and Their Habitats: we’ll classify plants and animals, hunt for invertebrates, create branching keys and investigate how environments change. Later in the year we will delve into electricity, teeth and digestion, states of matter and sound, continuing to develop our scientific skills.

Children will also enjoy a rich mix of art, music and design technology, from drawing and painting with light and texture to constructing Roman-inspired structures and creating moving cars. French lessons, PSHE, and regular computing sessions help them develop as global citizens and safe, responsible digital learners.

PE is active and varied all year—gymnastics, dance, hockey, basketball, tennis, cricket, athletics and swimming—building fitness, teamwork and resilience.

By the end of Year 4, children will leave with stronger skills, wider knowledge and a real sense of independence, ready to embrace the challenges of Upper Key Stage 2 with confidence and enthusiasm.

We can’t wait to share this exciting year with you!
